Ana’s POV
Hello..
My name is Ana. I’m originally from Tasikmalaya, and now I’m in fifth semester
of English Department in STBA YAPARI ABA BANDUNG. My campus is located on
Cihampelas Street. Currently I live not far from my campus, still at Cihampelas
Street. I rented a room which paid monthly. Here I’am living with my uncle and
his family, but not in the same building. Well, maybe enough for the
introduction.
Beside
in the college, I love spending much time in my room. I don’t know, I don’t
really like playing outdoors, except when I go to my hometown, I was
dillligently exercising volleyball with my friends in my lovely village.
Talking about that makes me missing a long holiday.
Never
been a time, when I was enjoying lay down in my room, I reminded of my old
story while I was in sisxth grade of the elementary school. It’s about nine
years ago. It’s one of my experiences that I though was funny. A weird story
which was experienced by an elementary school student.
That
time I was asked for help to deliver a gifts to the home of my brother-in-law’s
family. Together with nephew named Tibyan and an employees who work at my brother-in-law’s
home named Arya. For information, my brother-in-law’s name is Ilyas, while his
wife’s name is Susanti. She is my elder sister. And Tibyan is first son of
them. Same age with me.
“Va,
do you want to deliver this gifts to Mrs. Giman’s home with Arya? Invite Tibyan
too.” Ilyas said during held the gifts.
“
Sure. I’ll tell Arya and Tibyan now.” I said during received the gifts from
him.
After that, I found Dede and Tibyan was
sitting on the chair in front of garrage at Tibyan’s home.
“Guys,
we were asked to deliver this gifts to Mrs. Giman’s home now.” I said while holding up the gifts.
“Oh,
okay. Let’s go.” Arya answered.
That
night, the three of us went to Mrs. Giman’s home by the motorcycle. Oh, I
haven’t told why we deliver the gifts, it’s because of Hendrik, younger brother
of Tibyan’s father will establish a marriage. So, give the gifts is one of the
typical Sundanese tradition.
We
arrived twenty minutes later at Mrs. Giman’s home. The three of us walked to the
door of that house, we knocked the door and didn’t forget to say greetings. A
few minutes passed, no one answered our greetings and openend the door. Where
were the people of this house? It’s true that this house looks lonely, like it
was no occupants.
“Argh..!!
I’m tired of waiting here. Let’s go home!” Tibyan began angry because he bored
waiting outside and sometimes his skin was bitten by mosquitoes. Poor..
“Wait
a minute! Maybe the occupants of this house were watching television. So, they
can’t clearly hear if anyone knocks the the door.” I said trying to calm
Tibyan. “Arya, can you knock the door once again? Maybe this time there’s
someone open the door for us. If still no one open it, let’s we go home. I’m
tired of waiting too.”
“All
right.” Finally Arya tried knocking the door for the last time.
“Assalamualaikum..”
“Waalaikumsalam..”
Oh, finally, there’s someone answered the greetings and opened the thr door.
Seen a middel-aged woman who opened the door.
“Please,
come in.”
“Oh,
thank you, ma’am. We will not be long here. We just want to give this gifts from
Mr. Ilyas for Mrs. Giman. Two days later, the younger brother of him will establish
a marriage. Mrs. Giman and family were asked for attending at the wedding.”
Dede explained politely.
“Oh,
well if so. I will tell Mrs. Giman in order to attend to the wedding. Thank you
for the gifts.” That woman said who turned out to be housekeeper in this house.
“Maybe
that’s all, ma’am. We permission to go home. Assalamualaikum..” Arya said
ending the talks.
“Waalaikumsalam..”
The
three of us walked back to the motorcycle and went home then. Finally, mission
completed. Yeay!!
The
next day after I came home from school, my mother approached me as I was taking
my shoes off before entering the house.
“Ana, did
you deliver the gifts to Mrs. Giman’s home last night?” asked my mother.
“That’s
right, Mom. What’s going on?” I wondered why my mom asked it.
“This
morning I got call from Susanti, that last night there’s someone who paid
attention to you from Mrs. Giman’s home.”
“
What? Really? Who’s that?” I was surprised and curious. I thought that last
night there were no occupants in that house, but it turned out there. Why
didn’t they answer our greetings? I really didn’t understand.
“
Yeah. Susanti said that the person who paid attention to you from the house
were Mrs. Giman and her second son.” Explained my mother. “You know, Mrs. Giman wanted you and her second son to be
together.” Huh?
“What??”
Felt just like being strucked by ligthing. I shocked, of course. Come on, that
time I was in sixth grade of elemantary school. “No no no no!!” of course I
refused it. You can imagine my reaction in that moment. Listlessness, blank, mixed
shocked.
“Do
you know who was him?”
“Who?”
“He’s
a Pharmacist.” Wow.. “But his age is same like Dani, your big brother.” What?? My
big brother fifteen years older than me. That time I was still eleven years
old. No, thanks..
“
Mrs. Giman said, until now, her son always refused if he was betrothed with
women who have been introduced to him. Though his age already deserved to get
married. But after seeing you that delivered the gifts to her home, all of
sudden, her son told her excitedly if he wanted someone like you. Heard it,
Mrs. Giman was pleased. Effectively her son already found his partner for the
future, without knowing if in fact you’re still an elemantary school’s student.
Blame your giant body. A lot of people always thought you were an adult, but
actually you’re just eleven years old.”
“
And then, how they reaction after they know that I still in elementary school?”
“They
were very surprised, of course. They thought you were an adult.” My mother said
while laughing. “But he said it’s okay, he’ll be waiting.”
“No
way, mom!!” that’s my final decline. Who wants to be married when your age
still kid? There’s no. After finished discussing this strange thing, I went to
drink the water while thinking, ‘what did I dream of last night?’
That’s
a funny story that I experiance when I was ‘small’. According to the news from
my elder sister, Susanti, now Mrs. Giman’ son had a wife and a child. I became
one happy to hear it.
I
have to admit, it’s true that my posture is not like Indonesian people in general.
Since I used to, I’ve always been the tallest in the class. No wonder if many
people thought I was an adult when I was in elementary school.
